“Puppylove” is a 2013 Belgian, French, Luxembourgish, and Swiss coming-of-age drama directed by Delphine Lehericey. The film stars Solène Rigot as Diane, a reserved 14-year-old girl who lives with her father and younger brother. Her life is upended by the arrival of Julia (Audrey Bastien), a charismatic and free-spirited new neighbor.
The movie follows Diane’s journey as she becomes increasingly close to Julia, who encourages her to explore her sexuality and leave childhood behind. Their friendship leads Diane into a world of parties, clubbing, and sexual experimentation. The film explores themes of female friendship, sexual awakening, and the sometimes-unsettling journey into adulthood.
“Puppylove” premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and won the Magritte Award for Best Original Score.
