WHY SOME 1995 PENNIES ARE VALUABLE
While most 1995 Lincoln Memorial pennies are worth face value, rare errors and high-grade specimens can fetch 100to100to5,000+. The key is knowing these 4 valuable varieties to check for in your change.
TOP 4 VALUABLE 1995 PENNY TYPES
1. 1995 Doubled Die Obverse (DDO) – Worth Up to $5,000
- How to Spot It:
- Clear doubling in “LIBERTY” or the date “1995” (use 10x magnification)
- Most noticeable on the “9” in the date and Lincoln’s cheekbone
- Value: 300–300–5,000+ (depending on doubling strength and grade)
2. 1995-D Close “AM” Variety – Worth 50–50–1,000
- How to Spot It:
- The “A” and “M” in “AMERICA” nearly touch on the reverse
- Regular coins have clear spacing between the letters
- Value: 50–50–1,000 for uncirculated examples
3. 1995 Proof-Like Penny (No Mint Mark) – Worth 100–100–500
- How to Spot It:
- Mirror-like surfaces (accidental proof-like strike)
- Must be in pristine condition with full red luster
- Value: 100–100–500 for MS-67+ Red coins
4. Off-Center Strike Error – Worth 20–20–300
- How to Spot It:
- Design is noticeably misaligned (10%–50% off-center)
- More extreme misalignments = higher value
- Value: 20–20–300 depending on severity

HOW TO CHECK YOUR 1995 PENNIES
- Examine Under Magnification:
- Use a 10x loupe to check for doubling in “LIBERTY” or the date
- Look at the Reverse:
- Check the spacing in “AMERICA” (Close AM variety)
- Check the Mint Mark:
- “D” (Denver) – More likely to have valuable errors
- No mint mark (Philadelphia) – Can have proof-like strikes
- Assess Condition:
- Full red luster (RD) = Most valuable
- Red-brown (RB) or brown (BN) = Lower value

I have a 1941 no mint mark penny…with a perfect obverse. And totally blank/smooth/ never struck reverse. Help? Do I have it graded? Being told they’re everywhere. I’m 78 years old. Never seen any, anywhere. Have you seen any, anywhere? Ron DeLuca
